Talking about gua sha face sculpting massage, Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics said that using gua sha on the face has become increasingly popular in recent years and for good reason. “One of the main benefits is that it promotes lymphatic drainage, which can reduce puffiness and tone the skin. By gently scraping the gua sha tool along the contours of your face, you are stimulating blood flow and encouraging lymphatic fluid to drain properly, resulting in a more sculpted and glowing complexion,” she said.
Apart from improving circulation, the dermatologist said that gua sha can also alleviate muscle tension in the face. “Regular use of this technique can help relax tight muscles in areas like the jawline and forehead, minimising wrinkles and promoting a smoother appearance. Moreover, incorporating gua sha into your skincare routine can enhance product absorption by improving microcirculation within the skin. This means that any serums or oils you use will be better absorbed by your skin, enhancing their effectiveness.”
To use a gua sha tool on your face, start with clean skin and apply a facial oil or serum to provide lubrication, Dr Kapoor suggested. “Begin at the center of your face and move outwards using gentle upward strokes. Pay particular attention to areas prone to tension such as the jawline, brow bone, and temples. Always use light pressure so as not to cause any discomfort or irritation to your skin,” she said, adding that just a few minutes each day is all it takes to reap these amazing benefits.
