As per Buckingham Palace, “Central to the design is the motif of the Green Man, an ancient figure from British folklore, symbolic of spring and rebirth, to celebrate the new reign. The shape of the Green Man, crowned in natural foliage, is formed of leaves of oak, ivy and hawthorn, and the emblematic flowers of the United Kingdom.”

Additionally, the wildflowers surrounding the invitation feature lily of the valley, cornflowers, wild strawberries, dog roses, bluebells and “a spring of rosemary for remembrance,” to honour late Queen Elizabeth II. The bee, butterfly, ladybird, wren and robin — border the invitation, and flowers appear in groups of three, signifying King Charles is the third monarch of his name.

A lion, unicorn and boar also appear among the flowers, a nod to ‘the coats of arms of Their Majesties’, while the Queen of Consort’s arms ‘are now enclosed by the Garter, following her installation as a Royal Lady of the Order of the Garter last summer’.

The King and Queen Consort have four pages of honour each. For King Charles, the role will be served by his grandson and future king, Prince George; Lord Oliver Cholmondeley, Master Nicholas Barclay and Master Ralph Tollemache. Meanwhile, the Queen Consort has selected her three grandsons Gus and Louis Lopes, and Freddy Parker Bowels, and her great-nephew Arthur Elliot.
