Social media never ceases to surprise us. And it did again — this time with an Instagram post claiming that “just a handful of pistachios a day can boost hair growth, improve sexual vitality, and strengthen the immune system”. So, as always, we wanted to know the truth behind this information shared by nutritionalhealth.us. But before we uncover that, let’s find out about the benefits of having pista.

Why have pistachios?

Pistachios “insanely benefit” overall well-being and even improve skin health, experts urge. They are loaded with essential nutrients like zinc, vitamin E, antioxidants, protein, and fibre, informed Dt Inshara Mahedvi, consultant dietician, Motherhood Hospital, Lullanagar, Pune.

Pistachios are packed with healthy fats, protein, fibre, and antioxidants. “They’re a fantastic source of protein, containing nearly 40 per cent, and offer a generous dose of vitamin E, crucial for maintaining healthy hair and skin,” said Tarundeep Singh Rekhi, a fitness expert.

Are pistachios good for sexual health?

Mahedvi shared that it is known to have potent aphrodisiac properties that help boost fertility and sexual health in men. “Various studies have proven that eating a handful of pistachios daily can improve sexual vitality and libido. Moreover, they also contain phytoestrogen which is known to increase estrogen levels and sexual desire,” she told indianexpress.com.

While some properties in pistachios make it the best option to improve sexual vitality, it is also important to note that the impact of pistachios on sexual vitality might vary from person to person, experts asserted.

According to Rekhi, “The protein content in pistachios, including L-arginine, helps support our immune system and promotes blood flow to our sexual organs”.

So, is it a wholesome measure?

It is better to exercise caution while eating pistachios and “don’t believe in hearsay”. “What works for one person might not work for another. It is always advised to consult an expert to get personalised suggestions for better results. Also, avoid going overboard,” said Mahedvi.
