‘There’s a picture of the three Malik brothers — Amaal, me and our pet dog Handsome’: Inside Armaan Malik’s first self-bought Mumbai home

The standout feature? A brick wall that became the starting point of the home’s aesthetic. “This was the first thing that was made and sparked off the inspiration for the rest of the design,” he explains. His kitchen follows the same minimalist style: “simple, spacious, and open.”

Armaan’s favourite corner, however, is undoubtedly the music room, where inspiration lives. “This is my most favourite room,” he beams. “There’s my studio, my guitars, my MIDI keyboard, and a bunch of stuff that I’ve achieved over the years.” One of those achievements includes a plaque for his platinum debut English single “Control.”

The room also honours his roots and support system. “Both my brother Amaal and I won the Filmfare Award, and that’s my mom and dad holding our awards in their hands,” Armaan says proudly. “I like keeping it in my workspace because it keeps inspiring me to do better music.”

His bond with Amaal, also a music composer and singer, is clearly central to his life: “There’s a picture of the three Malik brothers—Amaal, me, and our pet dog Handsome. This is from Handsome’s birthday. It’s a really special memory for me.”

Then there’s his collection of guitars, lovingly referred to as his “guitar babies.” One of them, a guitar he bought in 2011 while studying at Berklee College of Music, holds a special place in his heart. “It’s been with me since then; on every concert, every tour with me. This is really special and feels like an extension of me.”
