We all know the telltale signs of an unhappy digestive system: a grumbling stomach, bloating, and heartburn. While diet plays a major role, a surprising culprit behind digestive woes might be our erratic eating schedules. According to nutritionist Lovneet Batra, simply setting — and sticking to — fixed meal times, particularly for dinner, can fix all your digestive issues.
“You cannot fix your digestion without fixing your meal timings. What you eat is important, but when you eat it is equally important. Whether it is problems like constipation, bloating or acidity, your meal timings cannot be compromised on,” Batra said in a video.
Additionally, the nutritionist answered the looming question — what is the right time to eat dinner? “So, if you are looking for a quick fix or solution to your digestive issues, I would suggest just starting with one basic change — fix your dinner time and figure out the best time to eat your dinner. This would be three hours before your bed timing and see how it affects your digestion gradually,” she revealed.

1. Regulate digestion: Eating on a consistent schedule keeps your digestive system in sync, promoting smoother digestion and reducing discomfort.
2. Stabilise hunger: Fixed mealtimes prevent erratic blood sugar swings, keeping hunger pangs at bay and helping you make healthier food choices.
3. Control metabolism: Regular meal timing keeps your metabolism firing on all cylinders, aiding in weight management and overall health.
4. Boost energy levels: Consistent meals prevent energy crashes and provide a steady stream of fuel for your body.
5. Improve sleep: Eating dinner earlier allows for proper digestion before bedtime, promoting better sleep quality by regulating hormones like melatonin and cortisol.
6. Mind-body benefits: A predictable meal schedule can contribute to improved mood and reduced stress.
Dalal emphasises the importance of listening to your body and adjusting your meal schedule based on individual needs. “Ideally, aim for consistent meal and snack times with 3 to 4 hours between meals,” she said.
