After gorging on all those fried pooris and aloo sabzi, it is but obvious to experience digestive issues during festive season. One of the most common problems you may find yourself tackling after binging those alcoholic beverages and festive treats without prejudice is bloating. This bloating will not only make you feel discomfort but may make you feel conscious of your appearance.

To ensure that your gut remains healthy and bloat-free, nutritionist Disha Sethi shared an easy recipe to debloat during festive season. “This festive season say bye-bye to bloating with this magical drink,” she wrote.

All you need is a few slices of apples, ginger and cinnamon. Mix it all together in water and sip through the day. According to Dr Sushrut Singh, additional director, gastroenterology, Fortis Hospital, Noida, this concoction helps debloat due to various reasons. Apples are packed with fibre, which aid digestion and promote bowel movements. Ginger, on the other hand, has compounds like gingerols and shogaols that relax and soothe the intestinal track. Meanwhile, cinnamon is a natural diuretic, which helps reduce inflammation and expels trapped gas.

Here are other effective methods to avoid bloating this season, as shared by Dr Singh:

  • Eat slowly and consume smaller, more frequent meals. Avoid overloading your stomach. Maintain portion control.
  • Chew your foods thoroughly and avoid talking while eating. Mindful eating is key.
  • Opt for beverages at room temperature, avoiding extremely hot or cold drinks.
  • Increase physical activity throughout the day.
  • Maintain an upright posture after eating.
  • Take a short stroll after meals.
  • Restrict the consumption of carbonated beverages, spicy, fried, or fatty foods.
  • Avoid veggies and legumes such as broccoli, cabbage, onions or beans.
  • Anything containing sorbitol, mannitol or maltitol, found in many low-carb or sugar-free foods, should be avoided.
