Shruti Seth, who was down with the flu recently, and had been constantly updating her fans and followers on Instagram Stories, once again took to the social media platform to reflect on sickness and the body’s ability to fight infections. “The human body is such a magnificent machine. When we get sick, it’s basically our body forcing us to start making healthy choices again,” the Fanaa actor wrote.

She added, “You are forced to eat clean and on time. You are forced to rest. Get 7-8 hours of sleep and that too the correct hours of the night. No excesses of any kind. And then you heal! Till you screw yourself up again!”

What does it mean to eat clean?

Clean eating, as the name suggests, involves eating whole foods rather than processed, refined foods that can hamper your weight loss journey and also make you feel lethargic. Eating local, seasonal, natural, home-cooked foods is considered the ideal way to live healthily. As per MayoClinic.org, it is a good practice to cut back on foods with added salt, sugar, or fat.

Instead of eating out, home-cooked food should be preferred. Clean eating also stresses on consuming everything without excluding food groups unless medically specified otherwise. “A healthy lifestyle is an ecosystem fundamentally based upon the three pillars of balanced diet and nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle choices. A structured and mindful approach can make us achieve and sustain fitness goals. When it comes to finding balance with meals it should not only be restricted to being calorie specific or just a balanced combination of micros and macros, but should also be had mindfully,” said Kritika Makker Kapoor, wellness coach and director, SK27 gym, South Delhi.

Previously, Seth wrote about ageing and why one must embrace it wholeheartedly.

“My relationship with my body
I like looking a certain way. I try and look after my health so I can look that way.
I eat right. I rest. I workout.
All, so I can look a certain way. And then, I don’t. But I keep trying.
And I know I won’t. But it keeps me motivated,” the Raajneeti actor posted.

The 45-year-old continued, “I don’t hate myself when I don’t.
Instead I love myself for trying.
Somethings I can’t fight. Like evolution.
I don’t want to challenge the natural order of things. Instead, I want to support my body just the way it supports me.
My body keeps changing, as it should.
And in that change, I try and preserve what I can without being harsh and tough on myself. Rest, I accept with love.”

She further mentioned that in her hope of becoming a better version of herself, she tries to stay consistent.

“The only thing I can do is stay consistent in my desire to look and feel a certain way.
So, I keep showing up and loving myself.
And taking care of myself is the best way for me to do that.”
