Alia Bhatt makes her grand debut at the Met Gala in a ‘Made in India’ creation

Alia’s look not only paid tribute to the iconic Chanel brides, but it also gave a nod to her pet cat, Edward, as she wrote, “Oh, and it’s white, for my Choup-ED.”

And finally… Alia Bhatt makes her grand debut at the Met Gala, looking pristine in an exquisite creation by designer Prabal Gurung. The actor made her much-talked-about appearance in a pearl-studded strappy corseted couture ball gown that featured a voluminous skirt bottom that flowed into a long trail.

Taking to Instagram, the Highway actor shared how she has always been “fascinated by iconic Chanel brides”, something that also inspired her look for the fashion extravaganza.

“I have always been fascinated by the iconic Chanel brides. Season after season, the genius of Karl Lagerfeld shone through in the most innovative and awe-inspiring couture. My look tonight was inspired by this and in particular by supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look,” she shared on Instagram.

Incidentally, the theme for this year’s ‘fashion’s biggest night’ is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ in honour of the acclaimed fashion designer who passed away in 2019.

Sharing details about her look, Alia revealed that she wanted to wear something that “felt authentic” (referring to pearls), and was “proudly made in India”.

“The embroidery, made with a 100,000 pearls is a labour of love by @prabalgurung. I’m so proud to wear you for my first Met,” she continued, adding that a girl can never have too many pearls… “and the right accessories to complement the look which, in our case, translated to the bow of pearls on my hair.”

Anaita Shroff Adajania, who styled Alia’s look, shared that the team wanted to “highlight Alia’s face by releasing the hair back with a straight and wavy messy look. As our Indian brides always wear flowers in their hair, delicate hand strung jasmine buds, so today we created these with pearls and a few spikes to add the right amount of danger and sweetness in a bow!” she wrote on Instagram.

Ahead of the ‘fashion’s biggest night’, the designer — who accompanied the actor on the champagne carpet in an all-white formal look — had also taken to social media to share a peek of the creations he designed for the grand event, the first of which — as guessed by many of his followers — turned out to be Alia’s. Take a look at it below:

But, Alia’s look not only paid tribute to the iconic Chanel brides, but it also gave a nod to her pet cat, Edward, as she wrote, “Oh, and it’s white, for my Choup-ED.”

Her message also referenced Lagerfeld’s cat – Choupette, who, much like her owner is a star – on social media and otherwise.

“A million thanks to all of you my fans, animal lovers & Daddy’s admirers. You have all shown the kindest enthusiasm and unconditional support, I say MERCI ! Many people invited me to walk the red carpet of the #METGALA2023 in tribute to Daddy, but we preferred to stay peacefully & cozy at home. We pay tribute to my Daddy every day since his parting and we are very moved to see one more day dedicated to him. With love, forever, Choupette,” her official Instagram handle posted ahead of the grand event.
