1,631 road accident cases were registered in Tripura from 2021-2023. (Representational)Nearly 700 people have died in road accidents in Tripura from 2021 to 2023, the state government informed the Assembly recently.
Tabling a report in the recently concluded Winter Session, the government stated, “A total (of) 1,631 road traffic accident cases were registered in different police stations of the state during (the) last three years i.e. 2021, 2022 and 2023. (A) total (of) 696 persons died and 1,697 persons were injured in connection with the above cases.”
Earlier in 2022, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched the first-ever ‘24×7 National Highway Patrol Vehicle Service’ in the state claiming that it would dramatically reduce highway accidents.
He stated that the service would cover a 130 km stretch of the National Highway starting from West Tripura to Sabroom, the southernmost tip of Tripura.
As per the Home Department report, an average of 90,000 vehicles hit the roads of Tripura every month. In addition to these vehicles, 10,000 vehicles from outside the state enter the state every month.
