Six WWF volunteers abducted in Assam

The six post-graduate students,including three women,were abducted at gun point in Kokrajhar district.

At least six World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) volunteers have been abducted by unidentified persons from Laopani forest area in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district on the Indo-Bhutan border.

The six post-graduate students,including three women,were abducted at gun point last afternoon when they were busy installing camera traps for census operation,Kokrajhar district DFO R N Boro said.

The volunteers were working in the Ultpani,Laopani and Labonyapur forest areas under Ultapani forest range of Holtugaon forest division,he said.

The six were identified as Torali Goswami,Pallabi Chakraborty,Shrabana Goswami,Nazrul Zaman,Pranjal Saikia and Gunin Kishore Sharma.

WWF is an international non-governmental organisation working on conservation and restoration of environment.
