The Jammu and Kashmir government has collected Rs 5,390 in fine from smokers in this city during the past one week.
Fiftytwo persons were found smoking in public places such as bus stands and B C Road during past one week and a total fine of Rs 5,390 was realised from them,officials said.
A team comprising of Food Safety Officers and Drug Inspectors of Drugs and Food Control Organisation,Jammu and Kashmir carried out a special drive for securing compliance of Section 4 of the Cigarette and other tobacco products (Prohibition of advertisement and regulation of trade and commerce,production,supply and Distribution) Act,2003.
The above section prohibits smoking in a public place.
The team also installed signages at prominent public places such as Jammu Club,Amar Singh Club and Best Price Multi Shopee Complex,Jammu displaying the warning “No Smoking Area – Smoking Here is an Offence”.
