Flood situation worsens in four Arunachal districts

“We are seeking Army help to rescue the stranded families. But the Army could not arrive yet because of inclement weather,” Riba said.

“If the downpour continues,the situation will worsen,” the ADC said.

He said,the swollen Noa-dehing river breached the anti-erosion protection wall on the left bank and washed away 16 houses,inundated 59 others,standing crops,the

road,and completely damaged an under-construction bridge in an area between Bijoypur-I and II blocks.

He said that countryboats could not be used for rescue because of the high current of the river.

The administration has declared the Bijoypur middle and primary schools as relief camps.

A medical camp has been set up under the supervision of the district medical officer at Dui village,about 16 km from Bordumsa.

A report from Lohit district said that incessant rain triggered flash floods in the Lohit,Berang,Noadehing and Kamlang rivers breaching embankments and submerging Dharapur village under Lekang circle,Silatoo,Kherbari and adjoining areas under Namsai besides inundating Alubari,Napotia and Chakma Basti under Chowkham circle.

Two small rivers,Tezu Nallah and Tenning Nalah,have badly hit Tezu,the district headquarters and triggered massive erosion,Lohit Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma said.

The flood protection work at Alubari,Sibrimukh and Alubarimukh have been completely washed away,he said. A relief camp has been set up at Dharampur,he said.

A flash flood washed away the Kanchi Nallah bailey bridge,the lifeline of Anini,Etalin,Anelih and Arzoo circles,located 15 km away from Anini,the headquarters of

Dibang Valley district yesterday.

During the past 24 hours 144.46 mm of rainfall was recorded in the district that triggered landslides which disrupt surface communication between Etalin-Maliney and Arzoo-Etalin- Roing,sources said.

The district headquarters and its adjoining areas were also without power for the last two days as the Awapani and Chini-Afra Mini Hydel projects have suffered major damage.

In Upper Subansiri district,Debom,Dera,Nipu,Nidak,Gamukrijo and Raririjo villages under Gusar circle remained cut off as the suspension bridge over the Subansiri river,the lifeline of the villagers,has been washed away by flood waters last Friday,the sources added.
