‘BJP’s ship will sink by itself’

Uttarakhand unit of the Congress has chalked out an agenda aiming to further strengthen its voter base amongst the Dalits and Muslims.

The Uttarakhand unit of the Congress has chalked out an agenda aiming to further strengthen its voter base amongst the Dalits and Muslims in the state. These segments, after having drifted away from the party over the last two decades, had returned to the party fold during the Lok Sabha polls enabling it to win all the five seats in the state.

The state Congress President Yash Pal Arya said in Dehradun on Thursday that the party would take up the issues pertaining to these segments both inside the house and also in the public spheres.

Referring to the prevailing scenario in Uttarakhand,he said,” The Wakf Board has not been constituted over the last two years. The work on the Muslim education mission has been brought to a stand still. There has been no move to develop the Madarsa Board and even the proposed plan for construction of a Haj House is hanging mid way. We plan to take up all these issues in the near future.”

Arya hit out at the BC Khanduri led BJP government in the state and charged that all the progressive plans aimed at development of the minorities and the marginalized have been kept on the back burner. He charged that the state government has violated the guidelines pertaining to the money allocated by the centre for the Special Component Plan.

“In the near future our newly elected Lok Sabha members and the party leadership in the state will be meeting to chalk out the issues that need to be taken up before the centre for the development of the state,” he said.

Replying to a query on the continuing strife in the BJP in the state and its impact on the functioning of the administration,he said,“It is no longer the Bharatiya Janata Party. Instead it is now Bharatiya Jhagralu Party

He added that the Congress would keep aloof from the developments related to the BJP in the state. “It’s a ship that will sink by itself,” he claimed.

When asked about the dismal performance of the Congress in the Kapkot assembly by-poll just a fortnight after it won all the Lok Sabha seats in the state,he accused the state government of misuse of official machinery and said that the BJP had spread the rumour that former Kapkot legislator Bhagat Singh Koshiyari would be sworn in again as the Chief Minister of the state. The Congress had finished a poor third in the election.
