Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation today grounded a fleet 1,200 vehicles across the state as its protest against the “forcible” shift of its headquarters from here to Srinagar entered the second day.

SRTC employees led by JK SRTC Worker union president Ashok Mehra and general secretary Paramjit Singh assembled at its headquarter here and held demonstrations against the government.

“Government is selling out assets. They are dislodging our employees and record and buses from SRTC owned lands and complexes…it condemnable,” Singh told reporters here.

He said the SRTC has been was told to shift its office to Nowgam area where no infrastructure has been built and the land is purely meant for farming.

“How can we operate from there when there is no infrastructure at all?” Singh asked.

Meanwhile,commuters were inconvenienced as buses,mini-buses and trucks of the corporation remained off roads,disrupting services on several inter-state routes.
