Attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his statements in the US, the BJP Tuesday said that he is against reservation for the SCs, STs and OBCs, and his prejudice against it is out in the open.

Referring to Gandhi’s statements at an interaction with Georgetown University students that “we would think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place”, former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “…Rahul Gandhi, who claims to be saving the Constitution, has said in America that he will scrap reservation when the conditions so warrant. With this, the prejudice against reservation which Rahul Gandhi has in abundance has been reflected in America…”

Prasad claimed that it is well-known that the BJP had given thick representation to Dalits, tribals and OBCs, and would ensure that the Congress is able to do nothing to harm reservations.

On Gandhi’s remarks about the Sikh community, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the Congress leader is trying to create a “dangerous narrative” by speaking on “sensitive issues” abroad. “… He says Sikhs are facing troubles in wearing turban and kadas in the country. But I am extremely proud of the fact that this government has gone out of its way to address the issues of the Sikh community. I don’t think Sikhs have felt safer and more honoured… after 1947.”
