Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday wished speedy recovery to King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, who is undergoing treatment for lung inflammation.

A medical team was examining Saudi King Salman, 88, over joint pain and high fever, state media had said on Sunday. This is the second time the monarch has been examined in less than a month.

Reuters quoted sources as saying that Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman will cancel his China trip scheduled for later this month and stay in Riyadh, owing to his father’s illness. Further, he also cancelled his May 20-23 trip to Tokyo and held a video teleconference meeting on Wednesday with the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud has been the King of Saudi Arabia since the death of King Abdullah in 2015. Before becoming Saudi Arabia’s monarch, King Salman served as the governor of the central Riyadh region and as Defense Minister.

King Salman was hospitalised in March 22 to change the battery of his pacemaker. He underwent surgery to remove his gall bladder in 2020.
