Taking a dig at the Opposition alliance, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said those who brought the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government do not have confidence in the grouping, and that they are “misusing the Manipur issue as a launchpad” for the INDIA bloc”.

“This no-confidence motion is not about Manipur. It is a pretext under which they (Opposition) are trying to up their political stakes,” Scindia said while speaking during the debate on the motion.

He called INDIA an “arrogant bloc” that got together in its greed for power, but one that has differences within.

As Opposition MPs started staging a walkout in protest, Scindia said, “The people of the country have shown them the way out. Now they are exiting Parliament, too.”

The Opposition members, however, returned to the House soon.

Criticising Rahul Gandhi’s “personal attacks” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Scindia, a former Congress leader himself, said: “Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi said Manipur is not a part of India for the Prime Minister. This Prime Minister has connected the Northeast with the world — the ideology of seeing India divided is yours, not ours.”
