The Congress has opposed the move in both houses, accusing the government of dividing the state into two union territories when its state assembly was not there. It also termed the decision unconstitutional.
To a query on what if the party decided on someone other than the two, Milind Deora said, "If the party collectively decides on someone else, I will respect its wisdom. But I will be surprised if the party or public disagrees with my assessment."
