Nursing student from Kerala dies by suicide near Bengaluru

The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and booked the college authorities after her parents alleged in their complaint that she was being pressured by them. The college authorities have denied the allegations, the police said.

According to the police, Vineeth had carried her mobile phone for a class test on Monday. A teacher noticed it, confiscated it and gave it to the principal. Vineeth was called to the principal’s room over the issue but the college authorities said there was no pressure from their end, a police officer added.

“Anamika Vineeth was last seen earlier in the evening on Tuesday. Concerned hostel mates alerted security when she remained unresponsive. Authorities called her phone, only to hear it ringing from inside her locked room. Using a master key, they entered and found her,” a police officer from Harohalli police station said.

Anamika had been alone for 15 days as her roommate was on sick leave, the police said. She left behind a note in Malayalam where she apologised to her parents, the officer added.
