Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary and JD(U) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Capital on Monday.

PM Modi reportedly praised Nitish for his “outstanding contributions” to Bihar and also credited the Centre for providing adequate push to the state for realising several development projects.

The meeting comes over a month after the NDA’s landslide victory in the Assembly elections.

A senior JD(U) leader told The Indian Express: “It was purely a courtesy meeting. During the 2025 Assembly polls, for the first time there was an NDA manifesto (previous polls had seen separate manifestos). Now that we have got a brute mandate of 202 seats in the 243-member House, we do need special attention from the Centre to fulfil the promises made in the manifesto. The PM concurred with the Bihar CM to fulfil the high expectations of the people of Bihar.”

The leader said the meeting did not have any fixed agenda and it was a general conversation of state and national affairs involving Bihar. “What is an indirect takeaway of the meeting is the Bihar government’s push for creation of one crore jobs and employment, in which Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana is an important component,” said the leader.

After the meeting, Deputy CM Choudhary posted on X that Nitish, he and Lalan Singh had a courtesy meeting with the “world’s most popular leader”. “Under the guidance and leadership of esteemed Modi ji, the country and Bihar are continuously progressing. During this time, valuable guidance was also received on the goals for a developed Bihar,” Choudhary wrote on ‘X’ in Hindi.

The meeting also assumes significance as Choudhary has been given the charge of the state’s Home Ministry, a position that had so far stayed with the CM.

A BJP source said, “A flurry of measures, including police reforms proposal, action against land, sand and liquor mafia and also against encroachers were reportedly conveyed to the PM.”

“As against media discussions on Nitish’s health, NDA has its own system of coordination. Our immediate priority is to respect the overwhelming mandate under the leadership of the Chief Minister,” said the source.

Asked if the “naqab controversy” was also discussed in the meeting — the CM has been under fire for pulling a doctor’s veil at a government function — the source said there was no question of such an issue being discussed on such an occasion.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met Nitish, Choudhary and Singh, who arrived in Delhi on Sunday for a two-day visit.

During the meeting at Shah’s residence, the leaders discussed various issues related to the development of the state. “Met Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Nitish Kumar ji, Union Minister Shri Lalan Singh ji, and the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Samrat Choudhary ji. Under the leadership of Modi ji and Nitish ji, the NDA government is committed to taking public welfare and good governance in the state to even greater heights,” Shah said in a message on ‘X’ in Hindi.
