Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday instructed the police department to launch a drive for immediate and strict action against “foreign infiltrators residing illegally in the state on the basis of forged certificates”.
During a meeting at the police headquarters in Dehradun, Dhami said strict action would be taken against those who assist “infiltrators” in creating fake certificates.
Dhami also instructed that tough action should be taken against the drug mafia. He also said the police should maintain friendly behaviour towards the general public while instilling fear among criminals. “Uttarakhand is known across the country and the world as a peaceful state, but the police and administration must remain alert so that criminal elements do not consider it a safe haven and are not able to misuse the peaceful image of the state. The police must make necessary changes in their work culture and establish communication with the public,” he said.
According to a statement from the government, the Chief Minister also instructed that arrangements be made for the collection of all types of data, including that of travellers, during the tourism season and the Char Dham Yatra. The CM said data is most important for policy planning and other strategy-making, and that its systematic collection is essential. He instructed that display boards be installed and SMS systems be put in place on Char Dham routes and other important routes to provide information about traffic conditions.
Dhami held a marathon meeting, lasting more than three hours, late on Thursday night, taking updates from the Director General of Police as well as all SSPs and SPs regarding the status of their departments.
He also took note of the condition of CCTV cameras in Dehradun, and called for a quick assessment and submission of a report on CCTV requirements across the entire state. The Chief Minister instructed the Home Secretary and the DGP to coordinate with the Union government regarding the proposed forensic lab in Udham Singh Nagar.
