The Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) would start a non-cooperation agitation from Thursday to mount pressure on the Centre to introduce a Bill in the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament for formation of separate Telangana.
The Telangana government employees, teachers, workers of state-run Singareni Collieries and others would take part in the stir,JAN Convener M Kodandaram told reporters today.
It would be coinciding with the beginning of Budget session of AP legislature and would be in the form of work to rule, pen down, tool down among others,he said.
The government employees, teachers, staff of public transport undertakings, students and other sections of the society are holding meetings to decide their role in the stir.
Each section would decide its role in the agitation working under the umbrella of the JAC,Kodandaram said here.
Referring to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s remarks that the Telangana issue was sensitive and complex, which cannot be solved in a day,the JAC Convener said that the Congress high command came under the influence of “affluent classes of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.”
“The Central leadership should be impartial. But we are getting the feeling that it has come under the vicious influence of the affluent sections of the ‘Seemandhra’ (Rayalaseema and coastal AP regions).”
Alleging that the Congress high command was not paying heed to the requests of some party MLCs,MLAs and MPs,who are camping in Delhi to impress upon the leadership for a favourable decision on Telangana demand,he said the ruling party leaders should join the agitation.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Electricity Employees Joint Action Committee (TEE-JAC) held a fast in support of the statehood demand.
As part of the non-cooperation agitation, the TEE-JAC asked its members to wear black badges from Thursday, not to work beyond office hours, not to force consumers to pay electricity bill and not to operate defaulters list of Telangana people in view of sensitive conditions prevailing in the region.
It also asked its members to increase supply to rural areas of the region and accord top priority in attending complaints from industries and commercial establishments which display ‘Jai Telangana’ boards outside their premises.
Expressing solidarity with the TEE-JAC,TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao warned of strong resistance if any employee who participates in the stir is “victimised” by the Government.
“I warn the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary that if any employee is victimised, all Telangana employees would resort to tool down and bring the administration to a standstill,” Rao said.
The fight for separate statehood is a “fight for self- rule and self-respect for which there is no substitute”,the former Union Minister said.
“We have to work with self-confidence. Let us fight till we reach the goal.”
Appreciating the electricity employees for coming out with an action plan for non-cooperation,Rao,however,told them to see that the Telangana farmers don’t suffer due to their agitation.
