Class XII toppers from across the country in queue for DU

National CBSE topper Paras Sharma is keen on pursuing Economics Honours.

As registrations for admissions to the Delhi University opened on Wednesday, most national and state toppers were seen flocking to the usual favourites on campus, with only a few exploring their options abroad.

National CBSE topper Paras Sharma is keen on pursuing Economics (Honours) in Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). “SRCC has the best campus placements and I want to pursue my graduation there,” Paras, who secured 99 per cent in Class XII,says.

Delhi’s government school topper Ankit Sahni, who scored 97.4 per cent in the commerce stream,is also knocking on the same door. He says SRCC college has the best reputation among commerce colleges in India.

Sopan Khosla from Jabalpur, who scored the same as Paras, but in the science stream,is taking the Joint Entrance Exam for the Indian Institute for Technology. Confident of doing well in JEE,he has decided to give DU a miss. Delhi’s science topper,Nikhil Chaturvedi is also awaiting results for JEE Advanced that was held on June 2.

While most students with good scores are confident of securing a place in DU,students of vocational courses have landed in a soup after programme courses — BA,BSc,BCom — were dropped under the four-year format.

Delhi’s government school topper in vocational courses,Taruna, who has an average score of 92 per cent,is seeking admission for Hindi (H) at Janaki Devi Memorial College. But she has not applied as yet. “With a score as high as this I should be able to get admission,” she says.

Government school science topper Lalit Lakra has written the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to AIIMS and other the medical colleges in the country. But he is keeping his other options open.

At the same time she has also applied to at DU for a BTech in Psychology. “I would really like to get into Lady Shri Ram College. But I would still prefer going to a new place,” she says.
