An all-party meeting held in Kerala on Monday in the wake of Sunday’s blasts at a Jehovah’s Witnesses convention in Kalamassery adopted a resolution urging people to stand united against attempts to malign the state’s peaceful and harmonious social milieu.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was attended by Opposition leader V D Satheesan and representatives of other parties including the BJP.
The resolution emphasised Kerala’s peaceful and harmonious social milieu and said the people of the state were committed to maintaining this.
“At the same time, we know there are people who are intolerant about Kerala’s social situation and want to eliminate it in one sweep. This meeting wants to make clear that the state will go ahead, overcoming such isolated attempts at disintegration,” the resolution said.
It said that efforts to sow seeds of mistrust and intolerance, to eradicate mutual understanding, interdependence and collective survival, would be defeated with all strength.
“A situation of spreading hatred against a faith, or of viewing a community or a person with suspicion cannot be allowed. The forces that try to whip up such thoughts of disintegration should be seen as common enemies of our country and our people. All political parties and individuals are committed to take this thought to society,” the resolution said.
It also called on people to be vigilant against baseless allegations and rumours. “This meeting wants to make clear that Kerala is united in going ahead by strengthening religious harmony and peace,” it said.
