Washington Accord gives Indian techies job boost abroad

The Ministry of Human Resource Development for the past few years was putting in considerable effort for joining the Washington Accord.

India Friday become a permanent member of the Washington Accord, which would enable global recognition of Indian degrees and increase the mobility of engineers to other signatory countries, including the US, the UK and Australia, for jobs.

At a meeting of the International Engineering Alliance of WA members in Wellington, New Zealand in the morning, India was given signatory status with effect from Friday, a statement issued by the HRD ministry said.

India joins 17 nations that are permanent signatories to the Accord. The Washington Accord was signed by the National Board of Accreditation, India — an accrediting body with the mandate for accreditation of engineering and other technical programmes at all levels in the country and making technical education outcome based.
