Unusual request

Chief Justice of India H L Dattu will soon have to take a call on an unusual request by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).

Chief Justice of India H L Dattu will soon have to take a call on an unusual request by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). The SCBA has written to the CJI, requesting for re-scheduling of winter vacation and to change the re-opening day from January 2 to January 5. The reason cited, apart from Delhi’s winter, is the fact that January 2 falls on Friday. The next working day is Monday, January 5. The CJI has been requested to consider changing the re-opening day in the 2015 official calender. SCBA had earlier opposed previous CJI R M Lodha’s proposal to have courts working for 365 days a year.

FLYING OUT

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants ministers and senior officials to minimise foreign travel and depute junior officials for these whenever possible. The Department of Expenditure has even issued a circular in this regard. The top brass of the Railways, however, seems to have found compulsive reasons to travel abroad. Railway Board chairman Arunendra Kumar, who is retiring on December 31, is going to Japan next week. Member (Mechanical) Alok Johri, who is retiring next month is currently on a trip to UK and Switzerland. And Rashmi Kapoor, Financial Commissioner, who is leaving her position this month, is currently in Singapore.

GOING OFFLINE

A day after it put yoga guru Ramdev in a fix, the website that claimed to have a cure for Ebola has shut down. The website, http://www.RamdevMedicine.com, had triggered ridicule for Ramdev because it was mistakenly thought to be his website. The website used to sell Ayurvedic products, but was not limited to products of Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth. It used to carry a disclaimer that it was not linked to Ramdev, something that got overlooked.

MUSICAL CHAIR

Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani’s search for the right Press Information Officer does not seem to end. On Thursday, the third PIO for the ministry since Irani took charge in May this year was taken off. Maushumi Chakravarty, Director in the ministry, was removed as PIO, reportedly on directions from Irani’s office. Chakravarty was the third PIO, after S K Mishra and Nanu Bhasin, since Irani became minister.

TOUGH QUESTIONS

A CBI team will be heading to Bangalore on Friday to question Air Marshal (retd) Raghu Rajan in connection with the VVIP chopper deal. Rajan was former deputy chief of Air Staff during the time Brajesh Mishra was the National Security Adviser. The team will be questioning Rajan in connection with the deal, in which it is alleged that technical requirements were changed, which enabled AgustaWestland to participate in the bidding process.
