‘Unbeatable’ Sukhbir on ‘no-formula’ win

With the Moga bypoll win’s credit also under his belt,Deputy Chief Minister and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is now being tagged by partymen as “unbeatable”.

With the Moga bypoll win’s credit also under his belt,Deputy Chief Minister and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is now being tagged by partymen as “unbeatable”.

“Nothing succeeds like success. Had we lost, all the blame would have also come on me. Then no one would have said a single good thing about me. But every victory humbles me and I am grateful to God for standing by me,” Sukhbir told The Indian Express.

The party’s victory in the Delhi gurdwara polls followed by the Moga victory has led many to believe that Sukhbir has a secret formula to win elections. “There is no formula. We work unitedly and that is the key. In Moga,we were all there — the entire cabinet and so many MLAs. Duties were assigned and carried out diligently and everyone worked tirelessly. The victory belongs to the party not only me,” he added.

Stating that the Moga victory will spell doom for the Opposition,Sukhbir said the Congress has never won an election from a place where it has lost it twice. “You can seen any state in India. It is a part of history. Orissa,West Bengal,Bihar,Gujarat — all these states are examples where Congress lost twice and never returned to power. It is going to happen in Punjab as well,” he said.

“The Congress tried micro management of elections in Moga. They also had a united front. But it did not work. That was because they did not work hard. I and the chief minister were addressing almost 30 to 35 public gatherings a day. They were doing not more than six to eight. Till the time Congress leaders continue to fight elections sitting in five-star hotel rooms and restaurants, they cannot win an election,” said Sukhbir.

“The Moga win is the beginning of Congress end in Punjab. They will be routed in the Lok Sabha polls,” he added.

Political analysts, however, pointed out that SAD victories would also bring Sukbhir’s enemies together. “In Moga, the Congress put up a united show. Also, the bypoll almost saw an alliance of the Congress with the PPP. It will soon become a reality before the Lok Sabha polls. Congress is catching on to Sukhbir’s planning and mode of working and factor that in for the next polls,” said a poll analyst.
