A traffic constable Wednesday alleged that Trinamool Congress MP and former Indian football team captain Prasun Banerjee had slapped him for sticking to rules, a charge which the latter denied.
The alleged incident took place Wednesday at the Lake Town flyover in Bidhannagar. The constable, who was not willing to be named, stopped the MP’s vehicle when it tried to take a wrong U-turn.
“The car (Banerjee’s) wanted to take the wrong route and tried to forcibly enter the road. As I asked the driver to wait for a while, he refused to listen and told me to call anybody I wanted to,” the constable told a vernacular news channel.
“When I said that I will note down the car’s number, he (driver) called Banerjee. The MP said do you know what you are saying and then slapped me,” the constable alleged.
The MP denied the allegation, saying “Prasun Banerjee has never indulged in any such activity and will never do so.”
