Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Monday said the party alone was capable of removing the shackles of despair and an “able” and “popular” Narendra Modi had been projected as the PM candidate to achieve this.
Addressing a small gathering at the sub-division town of Benipatti, Swaraj sought to cater to the Brahmin-dominated populace by offering her gratitude to the land of Maharaja Janak and poet Vidyapati. “There is no reason to fall into the abyss of despair as the BJP will break though the shackles of hopelessness. The party has projected Bhai Narendra Modi as PM candidate because of his ability and popularity,” said Swaraj, who also apologised to the crowd for arriving an hour late.
Counting 10 “achievements” of Congress, Swaraj said as it would take a long time to explain the Congress government’s 10-year rule, she had prepared a list.
“Inflation, corruption, scams, pathetic condition of farmers, closed business and trade, unemployment, ill-treatment of women, curbing freedom of democratic institutions and killing of five jawans at the border is what the Congress has achieved,” she said adding that the BJP could see a “wave of change” and Bihar would be one of its pioneers.
Terming Madhubani MP and sitting BJP candidate Hukumdev Narayan Yadav a “trouble shooter”, she said the local MP was among the five MPs who would be ready to speak on issues of farmers and labourers in Parliament even on a short notice. “We need such colleagues in Parliament to take up the cause of the downtrodden and the deprived,” she said.
