Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding allegations that a top home ministry official rang up Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to stall the arrest of former union minister Matang Sinh in the Saradha chit-fund scam.
Prior to this, Singh summoned Home Secretary Anil Goswami to his office and had a “closed-door” meeting with him for an hour on Wednesday morning. After meeting Goswami, Singh called CBI chief Anil Sinha to his office.
“After meeting the two officers, Singh briefed the PM and gave him a factual position of the case. We are not privy to the conversation he had with PM,” said a senior home ministry official.
CBI had earlier written to PMO that a top home ministry official and a senior IPS officer interfered in the arrest of Sinh. Sinh was called for questioning on Saturday in the Saradha chit-fund case in Kolkata, where he was arrested later in the day.
