Plea against UIDAI given ‘unrestricted powers’

Responding to a petition challenging the creation of the Unique Identification number,a Division Bench of the Bombay High Court on Monday asked the petitioners to approach the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) with their objections.

Responding to a petition challenging the creation of the Unique Identification number,a Division Bench of the Bombay High Court on Monday asked the petitioners to approach the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) with their objections.

The petitioners have claimed that the project grants “wide,unrestricted powers”” to an independent body (UIDAI). The plea questions why the work of data collection for issuing of the Aadhar card has been given to private agencies.

A Division Bench has asked the petitioners to approach the UIDAI with their objections and asked the authority to decide on their representation in four months.

60 Pakistanis residing illegally in state: RR

The Home Ministry on Monday said 60 illegal Pakistanis were residing in Maharashtra. “These Pakistanis are staying illegally in the state. Two of them are in prison,” Home Minister R R Patil said in a written reply to the Assembly.Patil said 107 Pakistanis were untraceable.
