Representatives of about a dozen members of Osaka Business Partner Cities from Asia Pacific region met at a day long conclave in Mumbai on December 16 and sought to share their experiences in coping with environmental problems.
The conclave was organized jointly by Indian Merchants Chamber and the Osaka Business Partner City Council for Sharing Information and Structuring a Framework for Environmental Business Development among BPCs.
Among the cities participating were Mumbai,Osaka,Hong Kong,Bangkok,Kuala Lumpur,Seoul and Melbourne.
Dandekar said that global warming and climate change was the result of a mindless pursuit of industrialization by the developed countries in the past six or seven decades. Many developing countries,particularly in Asia,have to pay the price for it now,he said.
Shailesh Haribhakti said that the recently amended Indian Electricity Act mandated that major power consumers should ensure that a certain percentage of their energy consumption could come from renewable sources.
