A scheme announced by Gujarat’s BJP Government to regularise illegal constructions has failed to give desired result and this reflects poorly on the State administration,Opposition Congress said today.
After passing of the Gujarat Regularisation of Unauthorised Development Act,2011 (also called Impact Fee Act) in the Assembly, the Government had claimed more than 15 lakhs illegal constructions would be regularised in the state,Siddharth Patel, former President of Gujarat PCC,said.
However, only 1,100 applications have been received so far for regularisation of illegal constructions under the plan, which came into effect in February 2012,he said while talking to PTI here.
Despite extending its validity in August and also reducing the fee to be charged under the scheme,it has failed to receive good response from the people,he said.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi was hopeful of using the scheme to woo voters ahead of the December Assembly poll. But lukewarm response to the scheme shows something is wrong with it,Patel said.
This reflects poorly on performance of the Modi Government. One reason for the scheme’s failure could be the requirement to submit many documents and certificates from the applicants, the Congress leader said.
More than 300 town planning schemes had been pending before the Modi Government since October 2001. This raises serious questions about motive behind keeping them pending for such a long period and depriving people of facilities like infrastructure, road and water,he maintained.
