Jaitley calls SP, JD(U), AIADMK, Left tie-up ‘losers’ front’

BJP leader sought to suggest that the other regional parties have been steadfast in their opposition of the Congress and have had truck with the BJP in the past to dismiss speculation of a Congress-supported third front option.

Calling it a “losers’ front”, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said Monday the very idea of a third front would fuel the “desire to elect” Narendra Modi PM in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

He said the JD(U) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) appeared to be the “prime mo-vers” of the idea and claimed the JD(U) was staring at the possibility of being “squeezed out” in Bihar while the Muslim and Yadav support base of the SP was crumbling after the Muzaffarnagar riots in UP.

“The first (Yadav) is also partly voting for Narendra Modi and the second (Muslim) is completely disillusioned after the Muzaffarnagar riots,” Jaitley wrote on his website to assert that “both the JD(U) and the SP are potential losers in their areas of influence. Losers don’t become winners merely because they attempt to form a ‘losers front’”.

The BJP leader sought to suggest that the other regional parties have been steadfast in their opposition of the Congress and have had truck with the BJP in the past to dismiss speculation of a Congress-supported third front option.

“These regional parties occupy the non-Congress space. They have in the past been identified with the NDA,” Jaitley said in an apparent reference to the TMC in West Bengal, BJD in Orissa and the TDP in Andhra Pradesh.

“The more noise we hear about a third front, the greater will be the desire to elect a Narendra Modi-led NDA government,” he said.
