The Raj Bhavan walls were whitewashed this morning to erase the graffiti, but others remained.

The walls of the deputy commissioner’s office bore a drawing of a scorpion with a human head with ‘Need Uranium? Thlen at your service’.

Thlen in Khasi dialect means a mythical snake.

DSP (Crime) Vivek Syiem said “It could be the work of mischief mongers as it did not appear to be a campaign on any issue. We have registered a case and are investigating it.”

Stating that graffiti could have been stencilled past midnight last night when there was loadshedding,he said, they were inconsistent and could not be linked to each other.
