Slammed by the Supreme Court for its personnels animal behaviour of assaulting an innocent girl in full public in Tarn Taran on March 3,the Punjab Police has now attempted to seek refuge in the contradictory findings of the Magisterial enquiry into the case, even as it described the incident as a completely avoidable one.
In an affidavit submitted in the apex court,Tarn Taran SSP,Kamaljit Singh Dhillon expressed deep sympathy for the victim, but stated that her statement, given to the police does not match with the findings of the magistrate, who was entrusted the probe. The Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice of the incident.
In his affidavit, submitted Monday, the SSP also stated that the victim had not even accused the police officials, initially,in her complaint.
The affidavit further goes on to say that the girl had alleged, before the police, that some taxi drivers had misbehaved with her, which was objected to by her brother and father.
However,as per the SSP,the findings of the magisterial inquiry falsify the version of the girl.
As per the magisterial probe, some miscreants misbehaved with the aunt of the girl, resulting in an altercation. Blaming the girl, her father and brother for hitting the police officials, the SSP has stated that the brother of the victim was heavily drunk.
Also,he has submitted that the girl also hit the police officials with her sandal. The police officials tried to desist her but she kept on hitting and abusing the police officials. It is at this juncture, the incident in question occurred, the affidavit reads.
It further stated that these people (girl and her family members) were aggressive and they removed the turbans of two police officers. The medico legal reports of two police officers who allegedly received injuries have also been annexed.
The SSP has also mentioned that the girl and her father,on March 13,went to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha with Sunil Jakhar,Leader of Opposition, where the Assembly was in session.
The girl and her father were taken by Sunil Jakhar and others to the room of the Congress Legislative party without any entry pass issued by the Speaker. One head constable,Jaipal Singh, who was on ward duty was assaulted by a few legislators, reads the affidavit.
The SSP also alleged that one of his head constables was manhandled.
