Punjab Excise and Taxation Commissioner Anurag Verma has dismissed from service Inspector Dharminder Singh for allegedly making bogus entries regarding passage of a truck from Information Collection Centre (ICC) at Nangal.
Verma on Sunday said Excise and Taxation Inspector Dharminder Singh was posted at ICC,Nangal. A vehicle carrying tiles at Kallerkhera ICC wrongfully made a declaration that it will cross into Himachal Pradesh from Nangal. But instead of going to Nangal,the vehicle illegally unloaded the tiles in Jalandhar. It was later re-loaded with rice. Following this,the vehicle tried to leave Punjab through ICC,Kallerkhera.
Excise and Taxation Inspector Jagdev Singh,posted at Kallerkhera,found that according to computer records,the said vehicle had not crossed Nangal ICC and thus,could not have returned to Kallerkhera. He interrogated the driver of the vehicle,who confessed that the tiles had been unloaded in Jalandhar only.
Jagdev informed his higher authorities and a message was sent to excise officials posted at ICC,Nangal to ensure that the dealer does not succeed in attempting to make a wrong record entry. But it was found that Dharminder has already made a bogus entry claiming to have crossed the ICC to go to Himachal Pradesh.
Following a probed into the matter by IAS (retd) officer M M Obroi,Verma dismissed Dharminder. A few instances have come to my notice where dealers were making bogus entries at ICCs. A strict warning has been issued to all inspectors posted at ICCs to refrain from conniving with dealers and from indulging in such malpractices, said Verma.
