Boys took to crime to spend on girlfriends and drugs,say cops
The Ludhiana police have nabbed two engineering students and an autorickshaw driver for over a dozen snatchings. The cops have recovered six mobile phones and two stolen motorcycles from the accused and claimed that the boys indulged in the crimes to pamper their girlfriends and meet their own drug needs.
Those arrested have been identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan,a resident of Tibba Road,Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanju,a resident of Sector 36,and Sanjiv Kumar Verma alias Sona,a resident of Sector 36. Gagandeep and Sanju are students of Lala Lajpat Rai Engineering College,Moga,while Sona,the third member of the gang,used to study with them two during their school days.
ADCP Sushil Kumar informed that a police party of Division number 7 had put up a naka on Tuesday night when they saw the boys coming on a motorcycle.
The police tried to stop these boys,who tried to flee. We had prior information about them and had been on the look-out for some days. The boys were nabbed and have confessed to some dozen incidents of snatching and loot.
The police got a remand of the boys for further questioning. ADCP Kumar added, The boys have confessed to us that they used to come out after the dark and snatch mobile phones,purses,bikes and other items from passers-by. However,they used to be so stoned by that time that they do not even remember the number of crimes they have committed. The three would then distribute the booty among themselves and splash it on their girlfriends.
