A Congress leader today lashed out at Mayawati government for terming 7,266-crore package Bundelkhand package as insufficient and asked it to shelve its parks and statue erection projects and provide a matching grant for the backward Purvanchal area of the state.

“The situation in the Purvanchal region is similar to that of the backward Bundelkhand and it also requires a special package,” Tewari told newsmen, asking for a similar aid.

On the contentious sugar ordinance,Tewari welcomed the party’s move for making it farmer friendly but said the state was free to give Rs 250 per quintal to sugarcane growers if it so desired as there was no ban in the said ordinance for doing so.

Regarding the shortage of fertiliser,Tewari termed it a racket and alleged a nexus among politicians, officials and hoarders.

The Congress leader also expressed concern on laxity in the security of Rahul Gandhi during his visits to the state.
