Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday hailed the passage of the Food Security Bill and the Land Acquisition Bill in the parliament,saying these were epochal decisions which will change the destiny of crores of Indians. Amarinder congratulated UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for historic legislations,which seek to secure and safeguard the rights of the farmers and landowners on the one hand and eradicate hunger from the country on the other hand.
11 senior officers transferred in Punjab
Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Friday transferred with immediate effect 11 senior officers in the state,including eight from the Indian Administrative Service.
Ramesh Kumar Ganta has been posted as Director (Treasury and Accounts),while Amit Kumar goes as the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Malout,an official spokesperson said. Shruti has been made the SDM of Talwandi,Apneet Riyait SDM of Jagraon,M K Arvind Kumar SDM of Banga,B Srinivasan SDM of Dhar Kalan and Kumar Saurabh Raj the SDM of Gidderbaha,he said.
GNDU to get MAKA trophy from President
Amritsar: President Pranab Mukherjee will award the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy to Guru Nanak Dev University for its all-round best performance in sports for the year 2010-11 during the National Sports Award Ceremony on August 31 at Ashoka Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan,New Delhi. Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University,Prof A S Brar along with Deputy Director Sports of the university,Dr H S Randhawa will receive the trophy for a record 22nd time for emerging as the top university in sports of India. The President will also present award money of Rs 10 lakh to the university for the promotion and development of sports activities.
Hooda extends full support to IKEA
Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Friday assured full support to Ikea,the Swedish furniture retail company,to set up their ventures in the state. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda gave this assurance to Chief Executive Officer of M/s IKEA Services India Private Limited Juvenicio Maeztu at a meeting held here. Haryana was the first state to support FDI and it has become the first choice of various multinational companies to set up their ventures owing to its industry-friendly policies, Hooda told Maeztu.
S-I booked on graft charges
Chandigarh: The Haryana Vigilance Bureau has reportedly caught Sub-Inspector Jai Singh,posted at Ellenabad police station,red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from Dalbir Singh,a resident of Ward No. 6,Ellenabad,Sirsa for not arresting two minors. A spokesman of the bureau said that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the Sub Inspector in Hisar.
Cong plans rally on Beants death anniv
Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee will on August 31 hold a state-level national integration rally to pay tribute to former Chief Minister and national martyr Beant Singh at his memorial in Sector 42,Chandigarh. The event will mark the 19th death anniversary of the former Chief Minister. PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa,Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh,AICC general secretary and Punjab affairs in-charge Shakeel Ahmed and secretary AICC Harish Chaudhary will address the meeting.
