CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government is set to invite noted filmmaker Shyam Benegal to produce four each in Punjabi,Hindi and English,depicting the freedom movements from 1840 to 1948. All the films will be of one hour duration. These films will be shown to the people visiting the cso that they could enliven the saga of the freedom struggle,during which,countless of Punjabis were subjected to the tyranny unleashed by the British Raj, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said while reviewing the progress of the memorial to be built at Kartarpur.
HC directs Haryana to fill doctor vacancies
CHANDIGARH: Nearly three months after the Punjab and Haryana High Court took suo motu notice of a letter written by a law student on a baby being delivered outside the Fatehabad General Hospital,the court on Thursday directed the Haryana government to fill up vacancies of doctors. The government told the court that in all,631 posts of doctors were still vacant. It added that out of 438 posts of senior medical officers,111 were vacant. In case of medical officers,while 2,556 posts were sanctioned,520 were vacant.
Punjab to conduct livestock survey
CHANDIGARH: To provide better services to livestock in the state,the Punjab government is conducting the 19th Livestock Census (Breed Survey). The Breed Survey will be conducted in 15 per cent of the villages in all districts of the state. Animal Husbandry Minister Sardar Gulzar Singh Ranike said that the main objective of the census is to encourage the livestock owners to keep elite breeds of domestic animals so that their income increases.
Property dealer shot dead in Jind
JIND: A property dealer was allegedly shot dead at Jullana in Haryanas Jind district on wednesday night. Police said that victim has been identified as Anil,a resident of Budhakhera village in Jullana. They suspect that his two business partners may have committed the murder. According to the victims brother,Anil was sitting in his office located near old bus stand of Jullana. A few youths came to his office and called him outside. They took him along to a house constructed on Gohana road. We learnt that Anil had an argument with those people that resulted in a scuffle and Anil was shot dead. He was left on the roadside and a few passers-by took him to the hospital,from where he was referred to Rohtaks PGIMS. He was declared dead on arrival, alleged OmPrakash,Anils brother.
Walk-in-interview for doctors on July 22
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Health and Family Welfare Department will hold a walk-in – interview for 392 posts across 13 specialties on July 22 at the auditorium of the State Institute of Health & Family Welfare Complex,Near Civil Hospital,Phase-VI,Ajitgarh,(Mohali). Dr Ashok Nayyar,director,Health and Family Welfare,Punjab,said that the walk-in interview is a part of simplified recruitment for specialists which has been initiated since September 2012.
DSGMC to start free pilgrim bus service
AMRITSAR: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh on Thursday said that the DSGMC will start a free bus service between the two main historical gurdwaras in Delhi,Bangla Sahib and Sis Ganj Sahib,for pilgrims on Sundays. Singh said that buses would pick up pilgrims from gurdwaras near their homes,take them to Bangla Sahib and Sis Ganj Sahib and drop them back.
