A 25-year-old student allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance at his residence in Anantnag district of south Kashmir today,police said.

Asif Ahmad Bhat consumed the substance at his home in Khushrai Kalan in Srigufwara,45 km from here,a police spokesman said.

Bhat was rushed to district hospital where he breathed his last,the spokesman said,adding,the motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known.
