At least 12 persons were injured in a clash between supporters of ruling National Conference and Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Budgam district of Central Kashmir on Friday,official sources said in Srinagar. The clash took place in Budgam town,14 kms from Srinagar,when supporters of National Conference opposed to the public meeting planned by the PDP at the district headquarters,the sources said. Within no time,supporters of the two rival parties exchanged blows and used sticks to target each other,the sources said. Police immediately swung into action and used batons to disperse the clashing groups. As it proved ineffective,police fired several teargas shells in the air to restore law and order,the sources said. They said 12 persons sustained minor injuries in the group clash and police action. The situation in the town was tense but under control,the sources said adding reinforcements have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
