Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday strongly condemned the terror attack in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir that left seventeen army jawans martyred. The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday and four terrorists were killed in the encounter.

“We strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Uri. I assure the nation that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished. We salute all those martyred in Uri. Their service to the nation will always be remembered. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Have spoken to Home Minister and Raksha Mantri on the situation. Raksha Mantri will go to Jammu & Kashmir himself to take stock of the situation,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Uri terror attack: There were specific intelligence inputs about a fidayeen attack

Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a high-level security meeting at noon which was attended by top ministry officials besides the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh is already in Srinagar where he will meet those jawans who were injured in the attack as well as hold security review meetings with the armed forces.
