Bachchan pitches for freedom of creativity

Actor Amitabh Bachchan on Wednesday visited the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication,Lavale to fulfill his duties as the emeritus professor of the university.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan on Wednesday visited the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication,Lavale to fulfill his duties as the emeritus professor of the university. Aarakshan director Prakash Jha,actors Deeepika Padukone and Prateik Babar also accompanied Bachchan to promote the film.

“Aarakshan is a film that brings out a veiwpoint about the reservation system and how it affects people and their lives at different stratas of society,” Bachchan said.

He emphasised that the future of the nation is in the hands of the youth. “When I go abroad,people say India is a third world country. I want India to be called a first world country. I want India to be called a developed country,not a developing country. The youth of the nation is responsible for how and where they take the country,” he said.

After his address to the students,Bachchan and Aakarshan team were flooded with queries by the students. When asked about his struggle when he came to Mumbai to become an actor,Bachchan said,“ I had come to the city only with my driving licence and hoped that even if I do not fulfill my ambition of becoming an actor,I would at least earn a living as a taxi driver.”

On why leading Bollywood personalities do not take action against political influences and whether they should adhere to the pressures of it,Bachchan said that a painter cannot limit his paintings to the use of one or two colours,creative person should be allowed the freedom to express his art as he wants to.

Replying to a question on how he has prepared to face the agitation on the political front and whether he will succumb to it,director of the film Prakash Jha said he has responsibilities towards his distributors and all the people who have invested their money in the production of the film.
