The Bihar Congress Monday suspended its Buxar district president, Manoj Kumar Pandey, citing “irregularities” at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally the previous day. Congress sources said “poor turnout” at the rally had led to the action.

Bihar Congress spokesperson Rajesh Rathore said in a statement: “The party has suspended Manoj Kumar Pandey, president of the Buxar District Congress Committee, with immediate effect from all positions, following directions from the national leadership.”

“This action has been taken due to irregularities, lack of coordination and negligence of duty observed during the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ programme organised in Buxar, addressed by All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge,” the statement said.

Rathore said Pandey failed to coordinate with the state leadership during the programme.

Kharge’s rally was part of the Congress’s series of programmes in Bihar themed on the Constitution. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, addressed three Samvidhan-themed meetings in Patna in the last three months.
