The ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is headed for a landslide victory in Bihar. The NDA is leading in 193 seats, above the majority mark of 122 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan is ahead in 46. Within the ruling NDA alliance, the BJP is ahead in 90 seats and the JD(U) in 81. On the Opposition side, the RJD leads in 29 seats, the Congress in five, and the CPI(ML) in four.

Key constituencies are seeing tight contests: Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan’s CM face, is trailing in Raghopur against the BJP’s Satish Kumar Yadav, while in Mahua, Tej Pratap Yadav has slipped to fourth place. Meanwhile, BJP deputy CM Samrat Choudhary holds a comfortable lead, and singer-turned-politician Maithili Thakur is ahead by over 8,500 votes.

Here’s a closer look at seven key constituencies based on current trends.

  1. 01

Raghopur: Tejashwi Yadav (RJD) vs Satish Kumar Yadav (BJP)

In Raghopur, BJP candidate Satish Kumar has widened his lead to 40,180 votes in the tenth round of counting. Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal is trailing with 36,950  votes.

Raghopur, the traditional stronghold of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family and the RJD, remains one of Bihar’s most closely watched constituencies this election. Lalu won the seat in 1995 and 2000, serving as Chief Minister both times, while his wife, Rabri Devi, represented Raghopur three times—including the 2000 by-election and two subsequent assembly elections. Their son, Tejashwi Yadav, has held the seat since 2015.

  2. 02

Mahua: Tej Pratap Yadav (JJD) vs Mukesh Kumar Raushan (LJP-RV) vs Guddu Gupta (RJD)

In the sixth round of counting for Mahua, Sanjay Kumar Singh of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is leading with 19,106 votes, gaining 5,278 votes since the previous round. Mukesh Kumar Raushan of the Rashtriya Janata Dal is trailing with 13,828 votes, down by 5,278 votes. Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav of Janshakti Janata Dal is on fourth place with 4,399 votes.

Mahuabecome a focal point after Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son, was expelled from the RJD and later re-entered politics by contesting from this seat under his newly formed party, Janshakti Janata Dal.

The constituency, with its strong Yadav vote base and a significant presence of Scheduled Caste and Muslim voters, remains a key battleground in Bihar. Tej Pratap first won Mahua in 2015 but contested from Hasanpur in 2020. The seat is currently held by Mukesh Kumar Raushan, who is also the RJD candidate facing Tej Pratap in this election.

  3. 03

Tarapur: Samrat Choudhary (BJP) vs Santosh Kumar Singh (JSP) vs Arun Kumar (RJD)

BJP’s Samrat Choudhary is leading by 4,790 votes after six rounds of counting in the Tarapur Assembly constituency, according to the Election Commission of India. Choudhary has secured 23,591 votes, while RJD’s Arun Kumar Shah trails with 18,801 votes.

Located in Bihar’s Munger district, Tarapur was once considered a JD(U) bastion. The seat has now been allocated to the BJP under the recent alliance-sharing arrangement. The contest carries added significance as Tarapur is the ancestral seat of Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister.

  4. 04

Alinagar: Maithili Thakur (BJP) vs Vinod Mishra (RJD)

BJP candidate and folk singer Maithili Thakur is leading in Alinagar, a constituency she has pledged to rename if she wins.

Historically a stronghold for the RJD, Alinagar saw a major upset in 2020 when the Vikassheel Insaan Party won the seat, breaking the party’s long-standing dominance. Since then, elections in the constituency have become increasingly competitive and unpredictable.

  5. 05

Mokama: Anant Kumar Singh (JD-U) vs Veena Devi (RJD)

After the twenty one rounds of counting in Mokama, JD(U) candidate Anant Kumar Singh has widened his lead to 79,949 votes. RJD’s Veena Devi trails with 57,410 votes. Priyadarshi Piyush of the Jan Suraaj Party remains in third place with 27,69 votes, trailing Singh by 67,180 votes.

The Mokama seat, which saw a 64 per cent voter turnout, remains firmly in Anant Singh’s grip. After winning in 2015 as an Independent and again in 2020 on an RJD ticket, Singh is now contesting on a JD(U) ticket.

  6. 06

Chapra: Chhoti Kumari (BJP) vs Khesari Lal Yadav (RJD)

After the seventh round of counting in Chapra, BJP’s Chhoti Kumari extended her lead to 22,031 votes, while RJD’s star candidate Khesari Lal Yadav trails with 19,439 votes.

Chapra, a general category constituency in Saran district, forms a key part of the Saran Lok Sabha seat. The constituency has been a BJP stronghold for two consecutive terms, with Dr C N Gupta retaining it in the 2020 Assembly election by defeating RJD’s Randhir Kumar Singh.

  7. 07

Lakhisarai: Vijay Kumar Sinha (BJP) vs Suraj Kumar (JSP)

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate Vijay Kumar Sinha is leading in Lakhisarai by over 12,400 votes, with Congress contender Amaresh Kumar in second place with more than 10,600 votes.

Lakhisarai holds particular significance as it is the home turf of Vijay Kumar Sinha, a senior BJP leader and the current Speaker of the Bihar Assembly, who is seeking a sixth term. The constituency, part of the politically active Munger region, is shaped by caste dynamics, including Yadav, Bhumihar, and OBC voters, as well as development concerns such as jobs and infrastructure.
