UNION HOME Minister Amit Shah on Friday stressed the need for linking of databases and adopting AI-driven analytical approach for tackling the emerging security challenges.

Speaking at the three-day ‘All-India Conference of Director/Inspector Generals of Police’ in Jaipur, Shah said that in 2023 the nation entered “Amrit Kaal,” and highlighted two important developments last year — formulation of the new National Education Policy and enactment of three new criminal laws replacing British-era laws. He said that the new laws are focused on delivery of justice instead of punishment and their implementation would transform the criminal justice system as “most modern and scientific”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to attend the conference, which is being hosted by the Intelligence Bureau at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jhalana from January 5 to 7. As per the schedule, the PM will take part in the conference on January 6 (Saturday) and leave the next afternoon; Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will attend all the sessions.

Shah, during his address on Friday, also stressed the need for training from SHO to DGP level and technology upgrade from police station to police headquarters level for successful implementation of the new criminal laws. He said there has been an overall improvement in the security scenario in the country since 2014, especially violence has seen a significant decline in three critical hotspots — Jammu and Kashmir, North-East and Left Wing Extremism-hit regions.

The Home Minister observed that the DG/IG conference has over the years emerged as a “think tank”, facilitating decision-making and formulation of new security strategies. He emphasised uniformity of structures, size and skill of counter-terror mechanisms across the country.

Shah highlighted the role of internal security in realising the Prime Minister’s vision of India becoming a developed nation by 2047.
