In a move to prepare students for a technology-driven future, the Ministry of Education has announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) will be introduced in all schools across India from Class 3 onwards.

The Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL) has reaffirmed its commitment to making ‘AI for Public Good’ a key pillar of learning, stating that the curriculum will promote critical thinking, creativity, and ethical use of AI from an early age.

A stakeholder consultation was held on October 29, 2025, bringing together representatives from CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS, and external experts. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also formed an expert committee chaired by Prof. Karthik Raman of IIT Madras to design the new AI and CT curriculum.

“Education in Artificial Intelligence must be treated as a basic universal skill linked to ‘The World Around Us’,” said Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, DoSEL. He added that the initiative aligns with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 and will ensure every child’s distinct potential is nurtured through an inclusive, future-ready approach.
