The three students – two women and a man – are from the institute’s Computer Science and Engineering department. One of the women hails from Bihar, and the other two are from Uttar Pradesh.
They had visited the waterfall, located in Harangajao in Dima Hasao, around 60 kilometres from their campus, on the weekend with a group of friends.
According to ASP (Crime) Dima Hasao, Faruque Ahmed, the police first received information about the three students falling into the waterfall around 3 pm.
“After police received information, a team went to the spot. Now, a team from the State Disaster Response Force has also reached. Since there are major network issues at the site, we have not been able to be in touch with the teams,” he said at 6:30 pm.
Dean of Students Welfare from the institute, S S Dhar, said that he, along with a group of teachers, arrived at the site in the evening.
“We have informed the families of the students, and two of the families are expected to arrive tomorrow,” he said.
